Is homebuyer education required?
For most of these programs, yes — and it's simpler than it sounds.
It's typically an online course (a few hours) you complete before closing. It covers budgeting, the mortgage process, and homeownership basics. Your loan officer will point you to an approved provider.
Required for: FHA 100% combos, CalHFA. The 1% down conventional grants follow their own counseling rules — ask on your file.
